I took my time getting up and getting ready yesterday, then spent a couple of hours doing fussy hand stitching for the second pair of Marrakesh Drawstring Pants. I got them hemmed today; more on that later. After lunch, I headed out to a work party. We spent four hours chatting and working in a […]

Box of Yarn

Saturday, June 27th, 2015

A big box of yarn arrived yesterday, because yes of course I took advantage of that KnitPicks sale. I have yarn enough in here for three sweaters. I could say that I have half my Christmas shopping done now. I also got some books: a sock knitting book which I think will be super useful, […]

Sore Muscles

Friday, June 26th, 2015

True confessions: I came back from my trip with a reinvigorated sweet tooth and have been eating the Evil 6 daily ever since I returned. On the plus side, I have also been adding strength to my cardio, and I have sore muscles. I like having sore muscles. I realize that this is weird. DMS, […]

Make Things

Nick Offerman is talking about marketing, and he’s mostly agin it. “The secret is to turn a blind eye to all of that information and look to the billboard in your head, ” he says. “Mine says, ‘Hey, Jasper. You should build a kayak and then paddle it in the ocean.’” If he does, he […]

O Joy All Men Terrestriall

I sped out this morning to a conference of church musicians. Some of my favorite people were there, including The Empress and That Man, among others. The speaker, Michael Morgan, was exceptionally good, and he had brought along his collection of psalteries ancient and modern. Here’s  a surprising version of the 100th Psalm: Psalme C. […]

More on Sleep

Friday, June 19th, 2015

I still woke myself up at the hotel when there were no animals to wake me. I still couldn’t get eight hours of sleep. Add the noisy  animals and I’m getting five to seven hours. Sigh. So I got up this morning after five and a half hours of dog-whining-punctuated sleep and got to work […]

KC Food

Monday, June 15th, 2015

I gained two pounds over the four day conference weekend. Here are some of the contributors to that number. Individual apple pie with cinnamon ice cream One of many chicken salads. This was actually #2 daughter’s chicken salad, but mine was similar. This is my go-to restaurant order, but it’s not always free of the […]

We had a nice little suite at the Sheraton, with an extremely comfy bed. There was an iron, an ironing board, a hairdryer, two TV sets, a microwave and refrigerator, a kettle and both tea and coffee, bottles of water, and an ice bucket. Very comfortable and well-appointed. The company takes good care of us.

Hotel Work

Friday, June 12th, 2015

I have a little work to do before we head out for a client meeting. The hotel has a nice workspace, with a window and everything. The view is not impressive. But I have tea from the microwave and internet access, so I am not complaining.
