Notre Dame de Paris

June 15th, 2017

Today was Contributor Day. The group I was in got site architecture, a wire frame, and a page/keyword map done for the update of the WordCamp Central website. We had a soggy wrap, a squash sandwich (two slices of summer squash with mayonnaise on a soggy bun), two apricots, and a square of clafoutis for lunch. I took no pictures.

But another day we visited Our Lady of Paris.

The builders of Notre Dame were not thinking about how to make the unchurched feel at ease or how to appear visually welcoming to young families.

And yet here this awesome church is, centuries later, filled with people lighting candles and making confessions and praying.

“I’m European,” one of my fellow contributors said today. “I take the long view.”

Perhaps this is something worth learning.
