I have been paying attention to my morning routine. Beginning tomorrow, I will focus on moving through it correctly, as a ritual, every day.

  • Wake at 6:00 a.m.
  • Set intention and express gratitude.
  • Evacuate.
  • Weigh.
  • Brush teeth.
  • Take vitamins, allergy medication, eye health supplements.
  • Exercise.
  • Tea and headlines.
  • Healthy whole-grain breakfast.
  • Shower, wash face and hair (alternate days), use toner, serum, and moisturizer
  • Dress like a grown up.
  • Brew a second cup of tea and make up my face while it steeps.
  • Start work at 8:00.

I’m not making big changes. I’m just focusing and being disciplined until I get back in the habit.

I need to improve the quality of my sleep, or go to sleep earlier. For the next week, as I’m tying down the a.m. routine, I will think about my p.m. routine and get it firmed up with better sleep in mind.

One area of the a.m. routine that hasn’t been going as well as it should is exercise. I am supposed to do 30 minutes of stepping every day — no excuses. I haven’t been consistent. When I sleep past 6:00, I feel that I can’t take the time to exercise. I think I’ll take that half hour late in the day once I get some work done…but I don’t.

So I signed up for a virtual challenge: 46 miles up and down Mt. Fuji. I’m hoping that this will give me the little push  I need to prioritize exercise.

I’ve enjoyed having a lazy, unstructured weekend, but I am ready to return to a wholesomely structured life.
