My annual Clinique order arrived, and it reminded me that of all the habits I’m working on, dressing like a grownup is the one I am doing most badly with.

8 glasses of water, planned meals, 9 servings of fruits and vegetables, fewer than 15 instances of the Evil 6 per week, thousands of steps, focusing on One Thing at work, working on relationships, cleaning my house fairly regularly — all of these things I can keep up pretty well as long as I have my checklists and pay attention.

But I often start work in my nightgown. I often wear the same jeans and sweater every day for a week. I rarely put on jewelry or makeup or perfume, even though I like all those things. I pull my hair back in an unattractive manner out of sheer laziness.

I must improve this.
