I’ve been writing about failure, and I probably will do so again.

However, I happened to run into my big life list of goals. These are not things I plan to do in a week or a month, but part of my definition of how to live right.

  • Enjoy friends and family
  • Maintain lifelong learning
  • Eat right and exercise
  • Dress well
  • Have regular haircuts, dental care, etc.
  • Have the hardware, software, and people we need for success at work
  • Keep a pleasant, functional home
  • Take pleasure in art and creativity
  • Maintain beneficial routines
  • Keep financial stability

I’m actually doing reasonable well on these. Not perfectly, but well enough to go on with. I intend to keep that in mind as I finish up the year.

Today’s song is a Christmas carol, because it’s feeling pretty Christmassy by now, isn’t it?

“Angels We Have Heard on High” is a traditional French carol.

Angels we have heard on high
Sweetly singing o’er the plains,
And the mountains in reply
Echoing their joyous strains.

Refrain

Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!

Shepherds, why this jubilee?
Why your joyous strains prolong?
What the gladsome tidings be
Which inspire your heavenly song?

Refrain

Come to Bethlehem and see
Christ Whose birth the angels sing;
Come, adore on bended knee,
Christ the Lord, the newborn King.

Refrain

See Him in a manger laid,
Whom the choirs of angels praise;
Mary, Joseph, lend your aid,
While our hearts in love we raise.

Refrain

This has been recorded by so many terrific singers, from Andrea Bocelli to Jewel, plus plenty of fine choirs, that you will surely be able to find a version you love. You should also sing this. Isn’t there someone who would love to have you come caroling?
