We drove through the Grapevine to visit family in Fresno, enjoying the drama of snow in the mountains.

Seeing the family was the main point, but we did also visit a book store and have a couple of meals out. We had Lao food.

My husband’s brother had a stroke a week or so ago, and I was happy to see him walking and talking. It was great to see the children I knew long ago, now all grown up with children of their own.

We had thought we might explore Fresno’s museums and art galleries, assuming that everyone would be speaking Lao all the time, but that was not the case. All the kids and grandkids spoke English and we got to catch up with them all and enjoy the visit.

I think this dish of tapioca and condensed milk looks like an Art Deco Christmas card.
