Easter Sunday was subdued and satisfying, with only five people for the meal and just two of us in church.

We had ham, shown here with a bit of pineapple, mashed potatoes, green salad, corn, green beans (including a few with #1 daughter’s preferred topping of brown sugar and bacon), deviled eggs, strawberry Jell-O and fresh strawberries, and fresh strawberry sheet cake.

A feast, for sure, but sized down from our usual holiday celebration. One cake instead of a cake and a couple of pies. Three hot vegetables and a salad plus fruit is about right, but we usually have hot breads and rice — not this time. We did have hummus and pita chips with sangria as appetizers.

As always, the people are the most important part of the gathering.
