La Bella took me to a concert at the Underground this evening for my birthday. We heard Matt and Shannon Heaton, and enjoyed it thoroughly. She sang traditional songs and new songs in traditional style, with a lovely, agile voice and excellent expression. She also played flute and whistle. He played guitar and bouzouki and sang. They had lovely harmonies and a wonderful feeling together.
He had the appealing lumbering back and forth stuff I associate with bluegrass and she undulated with hip-swiveling grace and they gave us a wonderful show.
La Bella and I had a glass (or at least a plastic cup) of Cabernet and wandered the gallery’s many studios. It was a fun evening all around.
I hadn’t heard some of those songs for decades. I’m not sure why I don’t sing ballads any more. They’re great stuff.
