Today included church, housework, and a concert, but I still completed the cardigan from McCall’s 7331 in Snorkel Blue. This was a ponte de roma knit from Hancock fabrics.
The cardigan is cleverly constructed and the instructions are very clear and detailed, so I had no trouble with it. The triangular fronts are simply cut double and sewn together so they have a self lining. The lined pieces are then sewn together with the back piece (single) at the shoulders and the sleeves are set in and sewn up with the side seams, just as for the top. The whole thing drapes prettily with a very comfortable, casual effect.
I’m still doing simple hand-stitched hems, and that includes the back neck edge. The pattern calls for machine finishing, and if I had done that, I’d have had both the cardigans and the third top done today. It might not, however, have been as enjoyable an afternoon.
I’m also just a hem away from finishing another version of the top, in a nice pink cotton interlock knit, also from Hancock’s. I prefer this to the ponte de roma for the top, but if wouldn’t do for the other pieces.
I made the Citrus Loaf Cake from Sugar Rush, a cookbook by Johnny Iuzzini. I used Noos lemon yogurt instead of buttermilk, swapped out some of the flour for almond meal, and reduced the sugar a little bit. It’s delicious.
With a cup of tea and West Wing, I had a very relaxing afternoon of sewing.
