Oh — I don’t know if you remember that Chanthaboune and I entered a writing contest in the summer. It turns out that we were third runner up. They sent us a prize — this handy book — and invited us to enter their next contest, which is in the romance genre. I may have to read more romances….
Here is the link.
So when do we get to read the masterpiece? 🙂 As long as the romance novel is not Mills and Boon – most of them are so boring. I submitted a manuscript once for fun. They sent it back saying there were too many characters in it. They also sent me the rules for Mills and Boon romances and suggested I try another one, this time following the rules, and send it in. (By this time I had read 5 M&B in quick succession to get a feel for the formula and was well and truly over my temporary aberration – I also had started back at varsity so I never got past chapter 1 when the heroine and hero met for the first time, taking an instant dislike to one another.)
Wow! That sounds like fun!
What do we need to know to enter next year’s contest against you?
Tell us all about the past contest and the one for next year!
Nice prize. So are you Chanthaboune’s mama? How nice of you to keep a close eye on her.
To answer your question, I have indeed visited Champassack. It’s a beautiful place, far from the hubbub of the Laotian cities–which is to say, it is REALLY quiet. And there’s nothing quite as wonderful as climbing up Phu Champassack at dawn, up the steps of Wat Phu and taking in that view of field, river, and mountain that inspired the first gods to live there.
Third runner up — that’s very close to first! Way to go!
congrats!
