The kids have all returned to their homes. We had a lovely holiday. So now it’s time to get back to work and to get going on my New Year’s Resolutions and goals.

First off, exercise and vegetables. I lost 60 pounds in 2015 and plan to lose another 40 this year. That’s a startling amount of weight — startling that I needed to lose that much. But I’m making good progress and it’s mostly thanks to vegetables and exercise, so I’ll carry on with my efforts. I’ll be adding strength training and generally stepping up my exercise, and I’ll also be working on extending the variety and quantity of vegetables I consume.

I ate whatever I wanted and whatever people offered me over the holidays, and I definitely noticed a difference in how I felt. I enjoyed all those sweets and breads and so forth, but I’m ready to go back to lean protein and fresh produce most of the time.

Next, I want to be more intentional about finances. We’re fine, but with my husband out of work, it makes sense to keep to a budget and work on savings. I’ll also be using my stashes rather than buying new materials — in all areas of my life, insofar as possible. I’ll be following the 50-30-20 rule and perhaps using YNAB. I spent a lot on the holiday celebrations and plan to spend a fair bit more for the wedding reception this Saturday, so I’m probably starting my new frugality on Monday.

I’m going to work on relationships, too. I want to be close to my new DIL and grandchildren, to stay close with my immediate family, and to build friendships and my professional network. I’ve been doing pretty well on that over the holidays, so I just need to keep it up.

Of course, I also want to learn new things, make things, and enjoy a beautiful life.
