I’ve made pancakes from scratch all my life, but now, cooking just for myself and as busy as I am, I like to be able to mix up a mix.

So I thought I’d compare a few wholegrain mixes and see whether they could be called healthy. Here are some macronutrient profiles from a few of my favorite brands.

Kodiak Cakes can be made with just mix and water, since it’s a “complete” mix.

Fat: 1 gram
Carbs: 24 grams
Fiber: 4 grams
Sugar: 2 grams
Protein: 7 grams

King Arthur Multigrain has a particularly light texture.

Fat: 2.5 grams
Carbs: 28 grams
Fiber: 5 grams
Sugar: 3 grams
Protein: 6 grams

Hodgson Mill Whole Wheat has a good basic flavor and texture.

Fat: 1 gram
Carbs: 28 grams
Fiber: 4 grams
Sugar: 2 grams
Protein: 4 grams

They’re not very different. Kodiak cakes look like the winners, with that extra gram of protein, even though King Arthur is ahead on fiber. Hodgson Mill has less the least protein and doesn’t come out ahead on any of the macronutrients.

In case you were wondering, Aunt Jemimah pancake mix has 7 grams of sugar and 1 of fiber, plus 4 grams of protein. So they’re not all the same.

Now you know.
