Pantone’s fall 2016 colors include darker shades of the Colors of the Year, pink and blue. There’s an emerald shade (2013), Bodacious which is quite similar to 2014’s Radiant Orchid, gray and taupe for neutrals, a return of mustard and Aurora red to replace spring’s yellow and Fiesta…Sort of a retrospective of colors from the past few years. I’m glad to see orchid back, but not feeling dazzled.
I am not particularly excited about the change from spring’s Iced Coffee to fall’s Warm Taupe.
Dusty Cedar is, Pantone says, a nod to Rose Quartz, which I am liking a lot this spring. I’ve also brought in Marsala from 2015, because I think these three have a good deal in common. They’re all appealing to me.
Ditto for Airy Blue, the fall take on spring’s Serenity. I’m not that much of a fan of blue, but it’s the color people most often tell me I should wear, and I like these French Blue shades.
And of course there are the dark blues: Snorkel and Riverside:
I like Riverside better than Snorkel, but I’m not really feeling excited or amazed by any of these shades at the moment.
So, yeah, I like the spring colors and I think they’ll do for fall as well… and I can use up my stash of Marsala, too. In fact, it looks as though I can plan on stashbuster sewing projects all year and still be pretty close to on trend for colors.
