I swatched today with Paragon sport weight, color way Winter Night, on size 5 needles. It’s just right for the Lady Gansey sweater from Wanderlust.
I’ve actually made that sweater before. I made it in KnitPicks Wool of the Andes Sport in Mai Tai Heather on #6 needles. On #5 it should be a little smaller, which is what I want.
I also started swatching for #2 son’s Aran sweater, his Christmas gift request.
It was exciting to receive the yarn from the Aran Sweater Market on the Aran Islands.
#2 son and his girlfriend were here at the time, and she helped me open the package and admire the yarn. Such a nice girl! We had breakfast at First Watch and dinner from Tangiers, with lots of nice conversation. It was fun to see them.
I wound up one hank, producing a ball too big for one hand, so that was challenging. The pattern included very specific swatching instructions, making a 24 stitch by 24 row patch of Irish moss stitch on size 5 needles. As you can see in the photo below, I had to godown to size 3needles to get the appropriate gauge.
