Here’s another new-to-me traditional carol. I’m not surprised that I can find new songs each year, but it amazes me that I can find new traditional carols each year.

This one combines “Come let us adore Him” and the traditional manger story with the snow that we usually find in later carols.

The Snow Lay on the Ground

The snow lay on the ground
The stars shone bright
When Christ our Lord was born
On Christmas night.
Venite adoremus Dominum
Venite adoremus Dominum.

Chorus:
Venite adoremus Dominum
Venite adoremus Dominum
Venite adoremus Dominum
Venite adoremus Dominum

‘Twas Mary, daughter pure
Of holy Anne
That brought into this world
The God made man
She laid Him in a stall
At Bethlehem
The ass and oxen shared
The roof with them.

Chorus:
Venite adoremus Dominum
Venite adoremus Dominum
Venite adoremus Dominum
Venite adoremus Dominum

Saint Joseph, too, was by
To tend the Child
To guard him, and protect
His mother mild
The angels hovered round
And sung this song
Venite adoremus Dominum.

Chorus:
Venite adoremus Dominum
Venite adoremus Dominum
Venite adoremus Dominum
Venite adoremus Dominum

And thus that manger poor
Became a throne
For He Whom Mary bore
Was God the Son
O come, then, let us join
The heav’nly host
To praise the Father, Son
And Holy Ghost.

Chorus:
Venite adoremus Dominum
Venite adoremus Dominum
Venite adoremus Dominum
Venite adoremus Dominum

I gave the final today. That means I have to grade papers over the weekend. The truth is, I don’t want to work. Probably not until 2015. I want to think big thoughts about the business, but I don’t want to work.

I did, though. I read holiday mysteries on my Kindle during the exam, then came home and wrote blog posts, answered emails, etc.

But after the etc., after six hours of etc., I wrapped gifts, chose cookie recipes, and got back to working on #2 daughter’s Christmas sweater.

Tomorrow I’ll grade papers.
